RTS #074 Where are the answers?
Google is great, but it doesn’t have all the answers. I’m not trying to pick a fight with Google; it has way more information than I do, but information is NOT the same as answers.
Try and Google:
“I have a client that did a Roth conversion for their entire IRA balance early in the year, forgetting that they had an RMD requirement they needed to satisfy. The taxes were paid from an outside account, so the full IRA balance ended up in the Roth account, and now I need to figure out how to satisfy their RMD for the year and whether there are going to be penalties and interest involved…help?”
Fortunately for the advisor who had this question, Google was not their only place to look for an answer. They happen to be an RTS Premiere Member, and got the information they needed in less than 5 minutes during a recent “Office Hour” that I host twice a month as a live open forum for our Premiere Members to get better answers they can take action on. If you are going to be involved in tax planning for your clients, you have to have a resource beyond Google that you can go to when questions like this come up.
Yes, I’m partial to our resources on this topic, but that’s because I am in all of these office hours providing the answers and seeing the impact that they have. I’ve talked to countless advisors who want a CPA to talk to but can’t get any to return their calls or simply have a conversation.
