Taxes: The Universal Shared Pain?

On the list of what makes tax planning a valuable offer to your clients is the simple fact that everyone hates paying them, and we all know what that pain feels like. It’s a place where any of us can empathize and all of us can relate to wanting to minimize that pain however possible. The only way you’ll get to help someone reduce that pain is if they know you can!

In case you missed it, this week on the RTS podcast, we had a special guest, Ryan Fitzgerald, Head of Marketing at BELAY. Ryan was generous enough to share his personal experience with how he found the advisor he works with and also offered insight from his extensive experience as a marketer. It’s not enough to simply say, “I can help with taxes”, but taxes do make for an incredible topic for finding your next client, so the episode is absolutely worth a listen.

In the run-up to the tax filing deadline is a great time to be including taxes in any content or marketing that you are creating. Taxes are always painful, but right now, they are top of mind, and that pain is fresh. My best results come from focusing on the real experiences I am having with taxpayers right now. To pull back the curtain just a little bit, you can pretty much assume that whatever topic I talk about in my content this time of year has been a client conversation within the last two weeks. It’s simple and effective.

I do realize that there is a gap between me saying “Hey, talk about taxes” and feeling like you are ready to incorporate the topic into your marketing, which is why we like to partner with experts and bring you great resources. BELAY is a leader in outsourced virtual assistants, including ones who specialize in marketing, and as one of our partners for The Summit 2025, they were generous enough to offer a free Playbook to the RTS audience all about Financial Marketing.

Normally, I would say, “Put this on your calendar to give it a place to live and come back to it,” but we are one month from the tax deadline, and this is prime time to be talking taxes, so get at it.

Happy Tax Planning!

P.S. Of course, after the filing deadline, we have to put all those marketing promises in action, so join us for a CE-eligible webinar all about Post-Deadline Action Items for Financial Advisors.
